Dinesh Karthik feels India will miss out on a left-arm pacer in the 2023 World Cup

BCCI recently announced the Indian squad for the upcoming World Cup 2023, and while the squad was certainly on expected lines, there were a few questions that were asked by fans and pundits alike.

One among the few folks who raised a question or two was wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik, who felt India could have considered picking Arshdeep Singh as a left-arm pace-bowling variety, with all of the fast bowlers picked being right-handers.

The Indian squad will be led by Jasprit Bumrah, who will have Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur for company.  Karthik believes that Arshdeep could have been a wonderful addition to this side given the fact that he can swing the ball at decent pace.

While talking on Cricbuzz, Karthik said, “India were clear that Arshdeep was not going to be in the scheme of things leading up to the World Cup 2023, which gives you clarity. They did not look towards that left armer as a wicket-taking option. I think what they felt with Arshdeep was that he was lacking in the middle-overs and couldn't have the impact that he could have with the new ball.”

He concluded by saying, “Will they miss a left-armer, yes. If a left armer was there of that quality and form it will always make a difference. You see all good sides across the world have one left arm pacer and it will be interesting to see how the team lines up against other teams.”
