Delhi aim to capitalize as Sunrisers look to bounce back

As the IPL has already arrived in the build-up to a maddening play-off race that can bring out the best from a team ailing in the bottom half while teams soaring at the top have come a hard cropper previously. With the drama compounding itself by a thousand times, on a rollicking Wednesday night, it will be a contest of a highly-balanced and famished unit going toe-to-toe with a wobbly and yet confident contingency ready to squeeze themselves in the pursuit of a play-off position.

The Delhi Capitals will be taking on the Sunrisers Hyderabad in what can be a crucial encounter in terms of the points table. The Orange Army is stationed in the fifth position of the pecking order where their exploits read 5 wins from 9 matches and an extremely healthy NRR of +0.471. Delhi are in the seventh position of the points table with 4 wins from 9 games and yet a healthy run rate of +0.587 keeps them well in the hunt for a play-off spot.

Delhi will be coming into this contest on the back of another defeat at the hands of the Lucknow Super Giants in a high-scoring affair. Despite Axar Patel’s late lunge of desperation, Mohsin Khan would totally change the complexion of the game with an incredible spell, making the journey tougher than ever for Pant and his men.

The Sunrisers were on a roll as they went on to win 5 consecutive games after a sloppy start to the campaign. However, once again things have taken a downturn as they have lost two consecutive games against the Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings. Their batting seemed in decent shape in the last two games but somehow their prized bowling line-up have been under the pump.

This will be an intriguing collision of two formidable forces ready to squeeze themselves in the hope of a hallowed top-four finish that can see them star in the prized play-offs. Both the sides have ample firepower in their batting unit while barring the in-form monikers of Kuldeep Yadav and Umran Malik, the bowling units combined for both contingencies will need some serious contemplation to reshape their ambitions.

Venue Watch:

Action will be returning to Brabourne after five days of hiatus as the last game that was hosted here was between the Challengers and the Gujarat Titans with both sides piling up an aggregate of 340 plus runs. Ideally, in a night game, the surface has gripped onto the ball that makes life a bit tough for the batters. Despite the sluggish nature of the pitch, it will always be inclined towards the batting side with scores of 180 being very much a possibility. There will also be dew on the surface that will counter the spinners’ advantage that the track may offer.
