David Gower suggests one rule IPL can pick from The Hundred
Cricket has added another format. While the jury is still out on the success of the Hundred, there are fans and experts who are suggesting that other formats can pick a thing or two from ECB’s flagship tournament.
Former England great David Gower thinks that there is one idea that the Indian Premier League can pick from the Hundred.
"If the IPL were to adopt that one idea from The Hundred, which is to penalize the fielding side if they're too slow, with field placing, that would make a difference to any game. So maybe that's one of the good ideas to come out of The Hundred," Gower told Cricket.com.
In the event of slow over-rate in The Hundred, the fielding team gets immediate punishment and is asked to deploy a fielder within the circle of 30 yards. This allows the batting team an opportunity to be more aggressive.
Gower also suggested that the idea of fining players for slower over rates is not as effective so there needs to be some other way to get the teams to stick to over rates.
"I don't get too upset by over rates. But it would be nice if people could stick to the over rates. There is no easy answer. They've tried fining people, but nowadays the odd bit of money disappearing doesn't seem to make a lot of difference to players, who are already incredibly well paid. Maybe this points thing is valid. Maybe you’ve got to fine the teams in a way that it works," Gower said.
Do you think IPL should think of adopting something like this in near future?
