Cricket Australia adamant on Adelaide Oval as the venue for India’s first overseas Day/Night Test
Despite the Adelaide Oval being declared as a hotspot for COVID-19, Cricket Australia is still optimistic that the city’s legendary Adelaide Oval will still host India’s first-ever overseas Day-Night Test match. Except for any extenuating circumstances, the Test match will proceed as scheduled, according to Cricket Australia.
While hosting a Test match in itself will be a Herculean task amidst a fresh COVID-19 outbreak, there are more immediately pressing issues facing CA. Two members of the contingent who had to be airlifted from Adelaide include Chris Green and Ashton Agar, both of whom are to feature in the white-ball series against India commencing in ten days’ time.
The biggest plus in favour of the Adelaide will be the fact that the state of Victoria, where India and Australia will be traveling to post the Adelaide test to play at the iconic MCG, has not shut its borders on traveling visitors from South Australia.
While Cricket Australia does not appear too worried about a shift in venues for the Day/Night test, the Sydney Cricket Ground has been penciled in as a potential replacement should the pandemic situation go South, quite literally. The Captain Kohli-led Indian side is currently under quarantine while they train simultaneously at the Blacktown Oval in Sydney.
