Class act, absolute class act: Kyle Mills on Shubman Gill
After the historic Test series win in Australia, youngster Shubman Gill’s name was on the lips of fans. Former New Zealand speedster Kyle Mills finds some similarities between the Kiwis legend, late Martin Crowe and Gill in terms of the batting style.
Shubman Gill is a part of Team India’s playing eleven for the first Anthony de Mello Test match, and will open the innings alongside limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma.
Shubman Gill: a class act, remarks Kyle Mills
"Class act, absolute class act. He is the player I love watching the best. When I grew up here in New Zealand, there was a very stylish batsman called Martin Crowe, one of New Zealand’s best batters,” Kyle Mills said on his Youtube channel.
Mills further explained why he compares Gill to Martin Crowe and also believes that the 21-year-old can become one of the faces of India cricket over the next decade or so.
"He was lovely on the eye to watch and Shubman Gill is like this. He is a beautiful player to watch out in the middle. I think it's going to be fascinating to see how he builds his international career over the next decade,” he said.
The 41-year-old also heaped praises on India’s most dependable Test batsman, Cheteshwar Pujara for his resilience during the Border Gavaskar series, where he was attacked by the Aussie pacers, but still managed to fight back.
"Pujara had a very good series in Australia. I hope he’s recovered from all the bruises that he took on his body throughout that series because Australia really peppered him with the short ball but he is prepared to have a long stay at the crease,” Mills said.
Pujara is the one who is going up against either of England's two veteran seamers, James Anderson and Stuart Broad, reckons the former Kiwis captain.
"He is the one, depending on the English combination and what they go for, either Anderson or Broad… he will be the one to take the shine off the ball big time and let the stroke-makers play around him," he concluded.
