BCCI announces updated squad for the second Test vs Bangladesh; Rohit Sharma ruled out
As India gears up to take on Bangladesh for the second Test that is slated to start from the 22nd of December, BCCI cleared the air around Rohit Sharma’s availability and also announced the Indian squad for the second Test match of the series.
The communique clarified that Rohit Sharma will not be available for the second Test match against Bangladesh as he has still not recuperated from his thumb injury. However, the medical advisory also suggested that he may be available for the series against Sri Lanka as he continues to recover well.
BCCI’s press release said, “Rohit is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team following his left thumb injury, which he sustained during the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka. The Medical Team is of the opinion that the injury needs some more time to heal completely before the Indian captain can bat and field with full intensity. He will continue his rehab and will not be available for the second and final Test against Bangladesh.”
Another addition to the piling list of injuries is Navdeep Saini who was drafted in to replace Mohammed Shami. During his tenure in the squad, Saini has suffered an abdominal muscle strain and will be flying back to Bengaluru to report to the NCA.
The press release further added, “Navdeep Saini is also ruled out of the second Test owing to an abdominal muscle strain. The fast bowler will now report to the NCA for further management of his injury.”
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul will continue to take point for India as their Captain while Shubman Gill will be the likeliest contender to open the innings again after a sublime run in the opening Test where he struck a brilliant ton in the second innings.
