BCCI announces match fees for playing XI members from IPL 2025
In what is a landmark move by the BCCI, there will be a new concept called the match fee, which has been introduced for the upcoming season of IPL. According to this rule, every playing XI member will be given INR 7.5 lakh per match.
Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, announced it on social media and said, “In a historic move to celebrate consistency and champion outstanding performances in the IPL, we are thrilled to introduce a match fee of INR 7.5 lakhs per game for our cricketers! A cricketer playing all league matches in a season will get Rs. 1.05 crores in addition to his contracted amount. Each franchise will allocate INR 12.60 crores as match fees for the season! This is a new era for the IPL and our players!”
As reported by ESPNCricinfo, there was a counter to this from the other teams with respect to benched players.
Explaining how things worked until then, the report stated, “Until IPL 2024, as part of their contracts, players received a discretionary fee from the franchises' overall auction purse based on where the team finished the previous season. This was called Incremental Performance pay.”
