From favourite batsman to favourite spells, Dale Steyn reveals it all

Dale Steyn might exhibit traits of a young pacer right off the blocks but the 36-year-old packs every ounce of experience and wisdom that comes with 16 years of top-class bowling at the highest level.

The South Africa and RCB pacer shared some of that wisdom with his fans and colleagues on Twitter in a Q & A. The session was a spread of Steyn’s amazing cricketing acumen and understanding of the game, peppered with moments of fun and banter.

On being asked who has a perfect bowling action according to him, Steyn said he was impressed with Kagiso Rabada’s. “KG has probably the smoothest easiest action to generate pace. Pat C [Cummins] is also a close favourite.”

The Protea did find himself in a tricky situation when a fan asked him to pick between Chinnaswamy and Cape Town. However, he managed an honest response that would be gleefully accepted by RCB fans. “Cape Town is my home so I’m going that way, but 50 000 people going mad when Ab or Virat is batting is also f***** intense!”

Steyn considers his first Test wicket as the most memorable one, while uprooting a batsman’s stumps when he is trying to leave is the favourite mode of dismissal for the Surfing enthusiast.

And what about the best spell? “Nagpur (7 against India) and Wanderers (6 against Pakistan).”

Steyn did try to be a bit diplomatic while answering who was the best batsman he played against; however, Indian fans would be happy to know that two legends made the cut. “F**** bud they all good ey! Ponting was prime, Sachin was a wall, Dravid, Gayle, KP, they were all so good!”

Sharing his lockdown routine with the fans, Steyn said that he is also working on his cooking skills now that he has a lot of time on hands.
