Captaining England was one of the proudest moments: Moeen Ali

On Tuesday, during the third encounter between England and Australia, Moeen Ali became the 10th captain to lead England in T20Is. England's limited-overs captain, Eoin Morgan ruled himself out from the last and final T20I due to an injury.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, the England and RCB all-rounder explained how proud he was to lead his nation in an international fixture. "When Morgs (Morgan) told me last night, I was over the moon. I don't feel proud a lot of the time but that was one of the proudest moments. Losing is not great but leading my country out like that was amazing. I'll never, ever forget that."

England had already sealed the series with two wins upfront. "We saw in the first game that if you put Australia under pressure, you push back, they crumble. I felt like that were kind of doing that again tonight. If we take the chances, I feel we would have won the game for sure. Of course, we were short with the bat, but the wicket did get easier and the fielding has to back-up our bowling," said Moeen Ali.

Moeen regarded his team’s performance on the field as “poor”, “slow” and maybe inexperience paved its way into the game.

"The incentives were there to try and be number one in the world. I think it's probably a lack of intensity in the field, we have got to switch on. It's a lack of experience as well, we have got some younger players who haven't played that much. Generally, I thought we were poor, a bit slow in the field but we will have to put that right if we want to win the World Cup," he added.

Without a doubt, this England side is one of the best in the world right now and to support that claim, they have the 2019 ICC World Cup triumph as their testimony.

"When you are missing four world-class players and four players who would probably be in the best batters in our team, it is obviously a big miss but I wouldn't say it's too far. I thought we had a good enough side, we were obviously short with the bat," the 33-year-old concluded.
