You realize the game is not quite that simple – Andy Flower on the dynamics of coaching
This is the second season for Andy Flower as the head coach of RCB and he has already emerged as one of the favourites amongst the players and the fans. Last year, he guided the team to the play-offs from an almost impossible situation and this year started with a bang as RCB have already registered two wins from their first two games.
Talking on the latest episode of RCB Bold Diaries, Andy Flower detailed the learnings that he has garnered over the years as a coach. He underlined the key element that he holds dear to his chest while stepping into his role.
Revealing his biggest learning over the years, Andy Flower said, “One thing that I have learnt over the years is certainly working with the person is as important or perhaps more important than just working with the athlete, if you like or the competitor. If you are not looking after that person, it’s very hard for him to be that outstanding competitor. You realize the game is not quite that simple.”
He further added, “Our job as coaches is to try and help our players play somewhere near their potential. They have all got a potential of 100% and we have got to help them understand themselves, understand their game, understand the game, understand things like how they react to pressure.”
