You need to play to your strengths: Sehwag on India playing 5 bowlers in WTC final

The World Test Championship (WTC) final gets underway in less than 4 days. Team India is set to face New Zealand in the inaugural edition of the Test cricket’s biggest prize. The final will be played at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton from June 18 to 22.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has joined the list of experts and ex-players who have weighed in on what comprises an ideal playing XI for India. The Nawab of Najafgarh believes that the men in blue fielding five specialist bowlers, two of whom are spinners, will be a huge advantage to the team.

“I don't how the wicket would look like on June 18th but one thing I have always believed is that you need to play to your strengths. If India can play with five specialist bowlers that will be a great thing because I still believe that two spinners will come into effect on the fourth and fifth day,” Sehwag told PTI.

Viru batted in favour of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja being named in India's playing eleven for the all-important final. He went on to say that both of them have been proven all-rounders, and it's not just about their bowling; their batting resilience can also come in handy.

“Two spinners will be good for India because both Ashwin and Jadeja are capable all-rounders. That also adds depth to your batting. You don't need a sixth batsman with both of them around,” the 42-year-old added.

Team India’s probable XI for WTC Final

Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (Captain), Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj.
