You enjoy the moment – Shreyas Iyer on settling into his role as India T20I captain
India put in a solid show in New Delhi as they blew apart Afghanistan without breaking a sweat. A combined show of confidence from the bowlers restricted Afghanistan to 159/8 before the batters descended in their most fiery avatar to run away with the bragging rights of the game.
Indian captain Shreyas Iyer was delighted with the series win and at the post-match presentation, he spoke about the victory.
Reflecting on the win, Iyer said, “Yes, certainly. I think looking at the last match performance and coming into this one, we were demanding a comprehensive win, and today was the right example of it.”
Talking about settling into his captaincy role, Iyer added, “Yes, certainly. It was a tough pill to swallow at the start, but the journey is always going to be roller coaster. You need to be in equilibrium as much as possible and see to it that you enjoy the moment and not think much about what has happened in the past. And I have said it in my previous interviews as well: the more you embrace the situation, the better it gets.”
Dropping in a hint about the potential combination for the next game, Iyer stated, “We want all of them to get used to the wicket and the conditions and also get some practice. So it would be a nice game to give opportunities to the players, especially who have been sitting out, and also change a little bit in the combination as well.”
