You are a true OG – Rohit Sharma on Ravichandran Ashwin post his retirement
Ravichandran Ashwin called it a day from international cricket and the world was left stunned at the end of the Gabba Test. If an anti-climactic end wasn’t enough for the fans and the experts, Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement came as a shocker. Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, had an emotional farewell message for one of the greatest off-spinners that India has ever produced.
Not only as a seasoned offie, Ashwin cemented his glistening reputation as an all-rounder of the sport. Although he featured across all formats of the game, Ashwin primarily shined in Tests. From 106 matches, Ashwin amassed 537 wickets, the highest by an Indian off-spinner and the second highest by an Indian bowler in the longest format of the sport. He was also handy with the bat as his numbers read a fine 3503 runs which comprised six centuries and 14 half-centuries.
Taking to Instagram, Rohit posted a picture of the duo, captioning it, “We’ve played together for so many years and created so many memories which I’ll cherish forever. You’ve been a match-winner since match 1 & left a lasting impression on all the young bowlers coming through the ranks. I’m sure we’ll have a lot of upcoming young bowlers with the classic Ashwin action. You are a true OG & legend of Indian Cricket & World Cricket and this team will miss having you. Wishing the best to you & your lovely family for what lies ahead."
