WTC Final: Kyle Jamieson breaks multiple records
Kyle Jamieson, on Sunday, broke multiple records on Day 3 of the World Test Championship Final here at Ageas Bowl, Southampton. India could only add 70 runs to their overnight score of 147 for three, losing seven wickets thanks to Jamieson's tormenting spell.
The fact that he accounted for three crucial cogs in India's batting line-up, each of whom could turn the match on its head on their day, was commendable. While the pacer showed glimpses of the arrows in his quiver on Day 2, he was at his impeccable best on Day 3.
He began the day on a great note, dismissing his RCB skipper Virat Kohli for 44. Six overs later, Jamieson claimed the wicket of the dangerous Rishabh Pant. He then made light work of the tailenders, sending Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah back to the pavilion on successive deliveries. In the process, New Zealand restricted India to 217 as the 26-year-old returned with figures of 5-31.
Records that Kyle Jamieson broke on Day 3
- He became the first Kiwi bowler to claim his fifth five-wicket haul within his first eight Tests.
- Despite only having played eight Tests, he has already established high standards. The 26-year-old broke Jack Cowie's eight-year-old record. After dismissing Rishabh Pant, Jamieson surpassed Cowie as the Kiwi bowler with the most scalps after the first eight Tests.
- With 5 five-wicket hauls to his tally, the pacer now has the most five-fors in the World Test Championship. Next on the list is India’s Ravichandran Ashwin with 4 five-wicket hauls.
- His bowling figures of 5-31 is the second-best by any bowler in an ICC final.
