WPL 2024 Auction to be held on December 9th
BCCI, on Friday, announced that the auction of the second season of the Women’s Premier League will take place in Mumbai on December 9th. An additional purse of INR 1.5 crore will be available for all teams, in addition to the purse amount procured by releasing players.
A total of 30 players can be signed across the five teams, including nine overseas stars. Ahead of the auction, 60 players were retained, 21 of them overseas talent.
RCB opted to retain a total of 11 players including three foreign stars in Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry and Heather Knight, while also retaining the services of India internationals such as skipper Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh and Renuka Singh.
In the inaugural edition of the WPL auction, seven players bagged deals in the highest bracket of INR 2 crore while Mandhana (INR 3.4 crore), Ashleigh Gardner (INR 3.2 crore) and Natalie Sciver-Brunt (INR 3.2 crore) breached the hallowed mark of INR 3 crore.
For the WPL 2024 Auction, defending champions Mumbai Indians have the highest purse available at 11.40 Cr, followed by Delhi Capitals (11.25 Cr) and RCB (10.15 Cr).
