Worked hard on consistency - Mohammed Siraj on the reason behind his stellar performance
Team India had a brilliant outing in the second Test against South Africa as they went on to win the contest within just one and a half days of the match. After an abysmal outing in Centurion, Rohit Sharma’s men posted a rippling display at Cape Town, riding high on imperious domination from their pace battery, spearheaded by Mohammed Siraj in the first innings and Jasprit Bumrah in the second, both of who registered six-wicket hauls, the visitors made easy work of the modest chase to seal a seven-wicket victory.
Mohammed Siraj was awarded the Player of the Match for his defining display in the first innings where he went onto claim six wickets in nine overs, playing a major hand in bowling South Africa out for 55. That fiery spell from Miyan sealed the fate of the game and despite the ups and downs from thereon, India were well on the path to seal a win. Talking at the post-match presentation, Siraj opened up on what it meant to create all the difference in the world with his razor-sharp spell, and that too in overseas conditions.
Siraj said, “It's my best figures in Test career. I tried to be consistent, hit the right areas and not think too much. I wasn't consistent in the previous match and that's why we leaked a lot of runs. Worked hard on consistency and tried to be relentless with my lengths. That gave me a lot of rewards.”
The ace pacer concluded by talking about his partnership with Jasprit Bumrah and a small note to the fans, stating, “When we play together, Bumrah gets the message earlier. We try to analyze the wicket a little quicker so that the communication goes to the bowling circuit that this is the wicket and this is what we are looking to do. To all the fans, thank you so much, keep supporting, keep loving.”
