Will Yuvraj Singh come out of retirement?
Punjab Cricket Association has requested for India cricketer Yuvraj Singh to come out of retirement and provide his services to the state side in a player-cum mentor role.
Yuvraj, who has played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the past, mentored some of the young cricketers from Punjab who will feature in the Indian Premier League, starting from September 19th in the UAE.
Yuvraj hung his boots last year after having played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. India’s one of the most popular world cup hero is often hailed for showing great grit and courage in the face of adversity. He made a successful return to the field after being diagnosed with cancer in 2011.
“We requested Yuvraj five, six days ago and we are waiting for his response. It will be really good for Punjab cricket if he can play and mentor them at the same time,” Punjab Cricket Association Secretary Puneet Bali told the PTI.
Bali thinks that the state team can benefit a lot if Yuvraj decides to make a comeback the state team can benefit from Yuvraj’s experience and mentoring. Yuvraj is yet to respond to the request made by the association.
However, it might be a little tricky for Yuvi to come out of retirement. Since he retired, Yuvraj has featured in two foreign leagues – the Global T20 Canada and Abu Dhabi T10 league. The BCCI regulations mean that only players who have officially retired get the NOCs to feature in the overseas leagues. Yuvraj played 40 Tests, 304 ODIs, and 58 T20Is for India in his decade and a half long career for India.
