One of the breakthrough performers for Team India in whites on the tour of Australia and the subsequent home series against England was Shubman Gill. A team full of youngsters pulled off one of the greatest series wins ever, Shubman Gill being one of the key protagonists, showed the depth in quality Team India possesses. Much of the credit goes to the way the team has blooded a fearless group of youngsters under the stewardship of Captain Virat Kohli.

Talking to India TV, Shubman Gill, who scored a crucial 91 in Team India’s first innings in the famous Gabba Test revealed how Captain Kohli tries to motivate the youngsters every time someone reaches out to him. “Whenever we talk to Virat Bhai, he always tries to motivate us and says that as a youngster we can play fearlessly and on our free will. Mostly the talk is about mindset. Whenever I feel that I am not in a good frame of mind I talk to him, he always motivates me and shares his own experiences, of being a youngster in the team, with me,” he said.

Team India is blessed with plenty of experienced heads to guide youngsters like Shubman Gill, and the presence of stalwarts like Rohit Sharma certainly helps the newcomers navigate the waters at the international level better. "Whenever I am batting with Rohit Bhai, we talk about where a particular bowler can bowl, where he is looking to get us out, what the situation is, whether we should not take any risk or if we are set, where should we try to attack, etc," he added.

With the final of the World Test Championship right around the corner, Gill expressed confidence in Team India’s ability to clinch glory. "Yes, we had a great performance in Australia and we are doing very well on away tours for the past few years. So, our confidence is very high and we feel we can't be better prepared for this final," Gill concluded.
