“When you lose a game, everything hurts” – Rohit Sharma after India’s defeat against Sri Lanka
Despite a feisty start from the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, who blasted a 44-ball-64 with five fours and four sixes, Team India submitted themselves in docile resignation as their batters failed to impress. Chasing 241, the visitors were skittled out for a paltry 208 with Axar Patel being the next best scorer for India with a run-a-ball 44.
Talking at the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma highlighted that it was definitely not a great moment for the Indian cricket team. After tying an almost secured game in the opener, this defeat hurt Team India dearly, especially with the fate of the series still very much in balance.
Rohit Sharma said, “When you lose a game, everything hurts. It's not just about those 10 overs. You have to play consistent cricket and we failed to do that today. Little disappointed but these things happen. You have to adapt to what's in front of you.”
He further added, “With left-right, we felt it'll be easier to rotate strike. Credit to Jeffrey, he got six wickets. The reason I got 65 is because of the way I batted. When I am batting like that, there's a lot of risks taken. If you don't cross the line, you always feel disappointed.”
The Indian captain concluded, “I don't want to compromise on my intent. We understand the nature of this surface, it gets really tough in the middle overs. You have to try to get as many as possible in the powerplay. We weren't good enough. Don't want to look too much into how we played. But there'll be talks about our batting in the middle overs.”
