When Hardik Pandya starts bowling, he will be a crucial part of the Test team: Virender Sehwag
In recent times, Hardik Pandya has risen up to become one of the most matured and talismanic cricketers of this modern era. The Baroda all-rounder hasn’t been able to execute his three-dimensional play after getting a back surgery post-2019 ICC World Cup, but his batting traits has been solid, and the recently concluded limited-overs series against Australia proves to be a testimony to his ability with the willow.
Speaking at a show on Sony Sports Network, former India captain Virender Sehwag believes that when Hardik Pandya is fit and ready to bowl, his presence on the Test side will give Team India much more stability.
"If he was bowling, then he would have been a part of the Test team. It is possible Hardik Pandya might have told the selectors not to consider him for the Test matches as he is not bowling fit and that he will only play in the ODIs and T20Is and that he will join back his family," Virender Sehwag said.
"But no doubt when he starts bowling, he will be a crucial part of the Test team. Because of the manner in which he bats in ODI cricket or T20Is, imagine if he starts scoring those quick runs at No.6 or No.7 in Test cricket, India will be in a good position to win Test matches. There is an importance of scoring quick runs in Test cricket as well as you give more time to your bowling unit to dismiss the other team," he added.
India is set to play four-match Border Gavaskar Test series against Australia. The Test series will kick-off with Day and Night (D/N) pink-ball Test at Adelaide on December 17.
