We would've liked to have won more convincingly but a win is a win: Faf du Plessis

It was a happy outing for the Challengers who managed to pull off their opening win of the season as they surpassed the likes of the Kolkata Knight Riders, thanks to an excellent bowling display from their bowlers.

Wanindu Hasaranga was the pick of the lot with 4 wickets for just 20 runs while Harshal Patel penned history, bowling two consecutive wicket-maidens, a feat that had only been achieved once previously in the history of the IPL - by his fellow RCB pacer, Mohammed Siraj.

However, there was an unexpected landslide early in the innings for the Challengers that needed a herculean response to ensure that they were coming home. Despite the fact that it came in a fragmented way, the win was secured nevertheless.

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis was pretty happy about today’s outcome as things finally started falling in place. He quoted in the post-match conference, “Very happy. Good win, obviously chasing small scores, you want to be positive and not leave it late, but it was good bowling from their seamers. Tonight, there was seam and bounce, first night it swung a bit more. Two-three days ago, it was 200 v 200. Tonight, it was 120 v 120, pretty good. In an ideal world, we would've liked to have won more convincingly but a win is a win. DK's experience helped in the end, cool, calm, runs weren't never really too far away. He's probably as cool as MS Dhoni can get in the last five overs.”

The man of the match for the game, Wanindu Hasaranga was also happy about his performance. “Crucial situation, I got only four and got out. I am really happy. Especially with the dew, it is very hard to bowl. My favourite footballer is Neymar and that is his celebration which I do. When I go play, I don’t take any pressure. That’s why I feel I got success,” he said.

The Challengers have a gap of five days before they play their next match against the Rajasthan Royals next Tuesday at the Wankhede Stadium.
