We never had any doubts: Rohit Sharma on Virat Kohli’s heroics in the T20 World Cup

In the year leading up to the T20 World Cup, there were a lot of questions about Virat Kohli’s form with the former Indian captain struggling to hit his signature stride. However, just ahead of the Asia Cup, he went on a month's break and the way he came back, firing on all cylinders, was simply a hint of better times to come.

Come T20 World Cup 2022, Virat Kohli blitzed a charge against Pakistan to help India cross the finish line in the tournament opener while backing it up with another excellent knock against Netherlands to underline his legacy. Despite a reticent knock against South Africa, he came back to his blazing colours against Bangladesh and led the Indian charge till the very end.

The current Indian captain Rohit Sharma has always been an admirer of Virat’s batting flair and heaped praises on him after another heroic display in the ongoing T20 World Cup. In the post-match conference, Rohit said, “In my opinion, he was always there, it was a matter of few innings here and there, and he got it in the Asia Cup. We never had any doubts and the way he has been batting in this World Cup has been tremendous and he is really doing it for us (on Kohli).”

He also heaped praises on how KL Rahul was back in touch, stating, “Also liked the way how KL played today. We know what sort of a player he is, if he bats the way he can, he puts the team in a different position. Our fielding was brilliant, and some of the catches we took were great to watch. It's a high-pressure game, to take those catches shows the ability of our guys and honestly, I never had any doubts about our fielding.”

India will be battling Zimbabwe in their final group stage encounter at the MCG to cap off the group stages as the semi-final looms in sight for the Men in Blue, hoping to make amends for a premature exit from the 2021 T20 World Cup.
