We kept doing the things we needed to do - Rohit Sharma on India’s Super 8 win against Australia

Rohit Sharma rode the wave of brilliance as the Australian bowlers were being hit out of the park at will in the India vs Australia Super 8 clash as part of T20 World Cup 2024. Despite losing Virat Kohli early, Rohit didn’t drop his salvo. He went after the bowlers and the kind of shots that were on display set St. Lucia ablaze.

Talking at the post-match presentation, Rohit shed some light on how they went on with the game, especially knowing the fact that they were up against one of the finest teams of the tournament.

Rohit said, “Satisfying. We know the opposition and the threat they bring. As a team we did well, kept doing the things we needed to do. Gives us good confidence as a team. 200 is a good score but when you are playing here with wind being a big factor, anything can happen. But I think we are used to the conditions really well, and it was about individuals doing their job. I twas about getting wickets at the right time.”

Talking about Kuldeep Yadav, Rohit said, “We know the strength he has, but we need to use him when necessary. In New York, there were seamer friendly wickets. He had to miss out but we knew he had a big role to play out here.”

Shedding some light on the semis and England being their opposition again like 2022, Rohit said, “We don't want to do anything different, play the same way and understand what each person has to do. Play freely and not think too much on what's lying ahead. Not think about the opposition. We have been doing it consistently, just need to continue. It will be a nice match, nothing changes for us as a team.”
