We have strengthened the death bowling unit: Yuzvendra Chahal

Royal Challengers Bangalore led by Indian skipper Virat Kohli is a franchise that has always lined up with a plethora of superstars. Stalwarts have come and gone, but the Challenger spirit remains constant. With a team of this calibre, RCB is looking for its maiden IPL silverware.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who became part of the RCB family in the 2014, has been a devout performer for the Bengaluru-based unit ever since. The Chinnaswamy Stadium - home to the Royal Challengers of Bangalore, is often seen as a graveyard for bowlers and only a few of them have been successful in curbing down the run flow. Yuzvendra Chahal is certainly one of them . The crowd favourite has scalped 100 wickets in his IPL career so far, and 50 of those wickets have come home at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

During a live chat with Aakash Chopra on his Facebook page, the 30-year-old talked about the area of concern for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. “I have played for RCB for 6 years, the problem has always been, other than the one year when we had Starc, our death-over bowling.”

The leg-spinner also explained how the last three overs had changed the course of the match on many occasions.

“Because we keep a tight leash till the 16th or 17th over, but I feel we have lost at least 30% of the matches due to the last 3 overs. Due to those 3 overs, the score goes to 190 or 200. So that changes everything suddenly,” he explained.

With the new think tank onboard, RCB adopted a new strategy and acquired a bunch of bowling options at the IPL 2020 auction. The inclusion of Chris Morris, Isuru Udana, and Kane Richardson will certainly be valuable additions to RCB's bowling arsenal.

“So currently we have a lot of options compared to other years. Because earlier after 16 overs, I used to bowl the 17th over if required else we had only two bowlers to bowl the last 4 overs. But now we have 3-4 options to bowl the last 4 overs. So this thing that we were missing earlier, we have covered now,” he concluded.
