We have got some fantastic Indian players – Mo Bobat on RCB’s domestic talent
RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, extensively spoke on the Indian players in the squad, highlighting a few names while also explaining why they signed the big-hitting Saurav Chauhan at the IPL 2024 Auction.
Talking to Jio Cinema at the end of the auction, Bobat emphasized on the Indian core at RCB and said, “We have got some fantastic Indian players. No one is bigger than Virat, then we have got Siraj, we have got Rajat. He is obviously a key player coming back to us, we missed him last year. We have also got DK, lots of good Indian options there. Mayank Dagar was also a big trade that we were pleased with as well. Lots of spin that can come into our team. Apart from these names there are other big names too. I have not mentioned their names. So there’s a lot of Indian talent in our team.”
Explaining the strategy behind landing Saurav Chauhan, Bobat said, “We kind of set aside a few luxury picks for ourselves. We had a little bit of money left. One of the things we could have had was a left-handed batter, that was an aggressive batter who could bat at the top of the order, kind of a cover. So, managing to get him at the end there was pleasing for us. We had a couple of players on our list as well, but the fact that he was left-handed set him apart.”
Bobat concluded by saying, “We are happy with the balance in the squad. You are going to an auction. Everyone wants to get the players they want but we are all after the same talent. You only get so much. I think you have to be true to your philosophy. You got to know your limits and what you can afford. If you exhaust those options, trying to get the main thing you need, you can sleep easy and we did that today. We had a good crack at the main thing that we wanted to do. We couldn’t afford what other teams could afford but that’s life. Very happy with the players that we are bringing in. It is already a very good squad.”
