We concentrated on single-wicket balls – Renuka Singh reveals her mantra for success
Renuka Singh was absolutely instrumental in propelling the Indian women to a stunning win over West Indies in the curtain-raiser of the ODI series against West Indies. Her fifer saw Team India registering a colossal victory by a staggering margin of 213 runs as the Windies were skittled out for 103.
Renuka razed through the Caribbean batting order, claiming the crucial scalps of Hayley Matthews, Deandra Dottin, Shemaine Campbell, Aaliyah Alleyne and Shabika Gajnabi. Talking about the incredible numbers at the post-match presentation for her Player of the Match award, Renuka underlined what allowed her to breathe fire in Vadodara in the opening fixture and how the entire team motivated her to do well.
Renuka said, “The team motivates me. Harman asked me if I wanted to bowl and my confidence also grew as the wickets fell. We did some spot bowling yesterday because it is important for ODIs.”
The RCB ace quick further added, “We concentrated on single-wicket balls, I spoke to Jhulan Goswami as well and she helped me with it. Difficult for bowlers as lines and lengths are different (to T20 cricket), that's why we practice. Whatever we practice, that's what gets executed.”
Renuka Singh Thakur will be back in action for India’s second ODI which is slated to be played tomorrow at the same venue where the hosts will be eyeing the bragging rights to put the series to bed with a match to spare.
