We are probably the two best teams in the world at the moment – Steve Smith on India and Australia
India are all set to lock horns against Australia in the latest iteration of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in December this year. This time around, instead of the four Test matches, the two teams will play five matches, a move which has been hailed by Steve Smith. The Aussie batter has made it very clear that the kind of powerhouses that India and Australia are makes this five-match series interesting.
As quoted by Hindustan Times Cricket, Steve Smith told the reporters in a media interaction, “It's great that we are able to play a five-match series against them. You can't really hide in a five-Test series like you probably can in a two-match series. If someone gets the wood on you, it can be hard coming back from that. It's going to be a wonderful series.”
He further added, “We are probably the two best teams in the world at the moment in Test cricket. We played the World Test Championship final last year and beat them there. They have been great out here the last couple of times, played some really good cricket. Hopefully we can turn the tables. It's been 10 years since we last won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. We need to do that this year.”
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be playing a crucial role in defining the fate of the two WTC finalists for the upcoming season. India and Australia are currently in the top two positions and both the teams will be hopeful of keeping the momentum intact.
