We are hoping that he can recover quickly and will be back for the 2nd Test: KL Rahul on Rohit Sharma
There has been a lot of speculation about the availability of Rohit Sharma for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh that starts at the Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium tomorrow. BCCI has already confirmed that Rohit won’t be available for the opening Test match.
However, his participation in the second Test is yet to be confirmed. BCCI has decided to wait and watch the progress of the Hitman and announce his availability later in the contest. Stand-in skipper, KL Rahul opened up on Rohit Sharma in the midst of all the speculation regarding his return to the Indian cricket squad for the second Test of the series.
Speaking at a press-match conference ahead of India’s opening Test against Bangladesh, Rahul said, “Rohit Sharma is a very important player for us and an experienced player and captain of our team so we will miss him. India will miss Rohit Sharma as a captain and batsman, we are hoping that he can recover quickly and will be back for the 2nd Test.”
He also talked about Virat Kohli’s importance to the Indian Test side, adding, “Virat Kohli's hundred against Bangladesh will give him confidence in the Test match. He has been around for so long, he is such an experienced player.”
India will be hoping to get off to a winning start as Bangladesh comes knocking on the door, especially with the fate of the WTC final hanging in the balance. The forthcoming couple of Test matches will be extremely crucial for India given the fact that the result of this series will give them a bit of breathing space against Australia in 2023.
