Records toppled like a house of cards caught in a tornado as Mohammed Siraj razed and rammed through the Sri Lankan top-order with his imperious spell of 6/21 in the Asia Cup 2023 final. He claimed the big wickets of Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva and Dasun Shanaka to kickstart what seemed like an endless spiral of chaos for the hosts.

The highlight of the spell was Siraj’s second over from which he clinched four wickets, leaving the hosts’ batting unit in absolute shambles.

It was the third over of the innings where Siraj started the all-important four-fer slaughter, producing a miscued push from Pathum Nissanka while Ravindra Jadeja pulled off an absolute ripper at point.

Sadeera Samarawickrama was no exception to the ailing batting unit of Sri Lanka as Siraj unleashed a menacing inswinger that left the former rooted to his spot, caught plumb in front of the wicket.

The torment never really ended for Sri Lanka as on the very next ball, Charith Asalanka produced a disastrous shot on the up, a shot that offered a catch that was comfortably grabbed by Ishan Kishan at point. To finish the over on a high, Siraj angled the ball away from Dhananjaya de Silva to eke out an edge that was grabbed gleefully by KL Rahul behind the stumps.
