Wasim Jaffer advocates for Shahbaz Ahmed in the Indian ODI team
RCB all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed made his international debut as he replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad in the line-up following India’s defeat in the series opener. India needed further depth in their batting order alongside some added variety in their bowling unit, a couple of aspects for which Shahbaz was deemed as the perfect fit.
On the eve of the contest, former Indian opener, Wasim Jaffer had advocated for the southpaw’s selection, expressing his belief in the all-rounder’s ability to conjure herculean feats.
Talking about Ahmed’s all-round prowess, Jaffer said, “Shahbaz Ahmed should play as he would be helpful in the bowling department and strengthen the batting unit. You cannot go ahead with only five bowling options in 50-over cricket. You can replace him with Ruturaj Gaikwad or Ishan Kishan.”
Shahbaz started the game on a high as he bagged the all-important wicket of Janneman Malan that provided an important edge to India in the opening powerplay. Not only did he manage to claim the scalp of Malan but the kind of composure shown by the RCB spinner was impeccable, to say the least.
