Washington Sundar replaces Axar Patel in India squad for Asia Cup 2023 final
Ahead of India’s all-important clash against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023, Axar Patel has been ruled out of the fixture after picking up a left quadriceps strain during the Men in Blue’s clash against Bangladesh.
On Saturday evening, BCCI confirmed that Axar Patel has suffered an injury, and in a bid to keep him fit ahead of the upcoming World Cup, a decision has been taen to replace the all-rounder with Washington Sundar.
Axar almost pulled off a win for India with the bat from a position of jeopardy against Bangladesh, but it wasn’t to be as the latter sealed a thrilling 6-run win. With as many as five senior players rested for that match, it is expected that all of them will come back into the side for the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka.
With Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja putting up impressive performances with the ball so far, it remains to be seen if Sundar straight away gets a game or the management opts for Shardul Thakur, who has picked five wickets from four matches.
