Virat's someone who doesn't need a title – Mo Bobat

RCB named Rajat Patidar as the captain for IPL 2025 after an incredible showdown in the last three seasons. Apart from his heroics in the Red, Blue and Gold threads, Patidar was also a pivotal part of Madhya Pradesh, leading them to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy finale in 2024-25.

Mo Bobat, the Director of Cricket at RCB, revealed how Virat Kohli was also one of the fore-runners for captaincy too and the think-tank put in a considerable discussion before they finalised Rajat for the captaincy role. However, in a unified front, the team agreed that Virat doesn’t need an additional label to lead the side. He is the ultimate professional and he himself was happy to know that Rajat was made the skipper.

In a press conference at the KSCA Stadium in Bengaluru, Mo Bobat said, “Of course, Virat was one of the options. But he's someone who doesn't need a title, he's always a captain in the dressing room. He sets the tone, he leads the team on the field. He's won multiple games in the field. You can see his energy out on the field. People don't see his professionalism, he's truly a professional.”

Bobat further stated, “Andy and I (Mo Bobat) lean on him a lot, and I'm sure Rajat will too. Kohli was excited and happy with this decision, he knows how deserving Rajat was for the captaincy."
