Virat Kohli set to go past Clive Lloyd’s record

Virat Kohli missed the last three matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia as he was on paternity leave. But now that the Indian skipper is back with the team, he is once again in reckoning to shatter a few records, first of which will see him go past former West Indies skipper Clive Lloyd.

Kohli has scored 5,220 runs as Test captain and is just 14 runs short of Clive Lloyd’s tally. If Kohli manages to break the record in the upcoming series against England, he will become the 4th highest run-getter in the longest format as captain.

Three other cricketers ahead of Clive Lloyd in the list are Graeme Smith (8,659), Allan Border (6,623), and Ricky Ponting (6,542). And the rate at which Kohli scores runs, sooner or later he will find himself closer to breaching the record of these former cricketers as well.

India begin their 4-match Test series campaign against England from February 5th. Team India, who recently trumped Australia in the Test series, are buoyed by the return of the regular skipper.

Both India and England are staying in the same hotel in Chennai and India are expected to start their training from 2nd of February.
