Virat Kohli eyes monumental feat in international cricket as Afghanistan challenge comes knocking
Team India started their World Cup campaign with a fine victory against Australia that saw Virat Kohli and KL Rahul putting up a fine show with the bat after an early wobble. The two knitted together a crucial partnership for the fourth wicket with Virat smashing 85 from 116 balls while Rahul stayed unbeaten for 97.
As Afghanistan prepare for the mighty Indian challenge, Virat will have his eyes on a formidable feat in the history of international cricket. The Indian cricket star has a chance to leapfrog Sri Lankan batter Mahela Jayawardena in a very impressive feat.
Virat is currently the fifth-leading run-scorer of all time in international cricket with 25,852 runs in all formats combined. However, he will have every opportunity to surge higher up the ladder and slot himself into 4th spot, leapfrogging the former Sri Lankan skipper.
Mahela Jayawardene occupies the fourth position in the list with 25957 runs from 652 matches. Virat, though, has amassed 25,852 runs from 508 games, a significant 144 matches ahead of the Lankan icon. However, Virat will be needing 105 runs to get past the middle-order stalwart and with the current form that he is in, it may only be a matter of one big knock for the former Indian captain to clinch the hallowed 4th position in the list.
