In India’s battle against England, Virat Kohli once again held his nerves to attribute shape to the Indian innings as runs were hard to come by. Known for breaking milestones with consummate ease, Virat Kohli racked up another feather for his already bedecked crown as he became the first cricketer in the history of T20I cricket to smash 4000 runs.

Kohli achieved his milestone while bringing out those neat strikes against the marauding English bowlers. Earlier against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli surpassed Mahela Jayawardene in terms of the highest number of runs scored in the history of T20 World Cups. Kohli was 42 runs away from the glistening feat and charged at the English bowlers handsomely.

He achieved this feat with a cracker of a boundary against Moeen Ali in the 15th over of the innings. This was also his third half century at Adelaide in the shortest format of the game, making this a fortress for the King.

Amongst the other decorated feats racked up by Kohli, he is also the only cricketer to be awarded the Player of the Tournament in the history of the T20 World Cup. He bagged those awards in 2014 and 2016, despite India failing to lay hands on the prized silverware.

In the history of T20I cricket, Kohli is ahead of Rohit Sharma, Martin Guptill, Babar Azam and Paul Stirling who make up the remaining four in the top five run-scorers in the antiquity of the format.

Kohli is currently the highest run-scorer in the tournament with 296 runs, which he has scored at a staggering average of 98.66. He has also smashed 4 half-centuries in the ongoing fray that undoubtedly makes him an absolute favourite amongst the Indian echelons.
