Very special for me – Shubman Gill on his match-defining performance against West Indies in the series decider

Shubman Gill was in fine touch in the series decider as he troubled the Caribbean bowlers with a blazing 85. Despite being in close contention of another glistening ODI century, the Indian opener lost his wicket as Gudakesh Motie got the better of him.

He was awarded the Player of the Match for a fine 85 that saw him ruling the roost comfortably against an undercooked Caribbean bowling unit. In his post-match interview, Gill opened up on the special knock that helped India to get a fine start after a wobbly showdown in the second game.

Talking about the innings, Shubman Gill said, “Very special for me, I was looking for a big score but unfortunately that didn't happen and I'm happy that we ended up on the winning side."

This was the second consecutive game that Gill was a part of a fifty runs opening stand with the number extending to a staggering 143 in the series decider vis-à-vis 90 in the second game.

He concluded by shedding some light on the surface and the developing conditions, adding, “The pitch was good initially as the ball was coming on nicely and as the ball got older it became tough to hit. In the last game, I was set and looking for a big one and tried to accelerate, you gotta keep putting the pressure on the opposition as that's how the ODI game has evolved recently. I just try to do my best and not think too much about who's playing or not.”
