Team India copped a metaphorical blow ahead of the Bangladesh series as one of the primary fast bowlers, Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the ODI series with uncertainty looming over his participation in the Test series too.

The Men in Blue are already depleted of their ace quick, Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently treating a stress fracture in his back while Ravindra Jadeja also had to be rested from the team after failing to recover in time.

Shami was imparted the onus of spearheading the formidable Indian pace battery both in the ODIs and the Tests in the absence of Bumrah. Unfortunately, the former couldn’t travel with the Indian unit on December 1st after copping an injury just ahead of the team’s departure.

The Indian quick was already rested from the New Zealand tour keeping the upcoming series in mind. He wasn’t the only one to be given a break from the Kiwi tour with Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma all rested after the T20 World Cup.

As per the BCCI’s latest update, Umran Malik has been included in the Indian side as a replacement for Mohammed Shami. The apex cricketing body in India issued a statement which read, “Fast bowler Mohd. Shami sustained a shoulder injury during a training session in the lead up to the ODI series against Bangladesh. He is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team at the NCA, Bengaluru and will not be able to take part in the three-match series. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Umran Malik as Shami’s replacement.”

Revised Indian squad for Bangladesh ODIs: Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (VC), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Shahbaz Ahmed, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Sen, Umran Malik
