Transition has to happen, whether today or tomorrow – Rohit Sharma fires an important message for the Indian cricket team

Rohit Sharma will be spearheading the Indian cricket team on the field as they face West Indies for the second Test, which will also be the 100th battle in whites played between the two teams. Obviously, a day ahead of a Test match, one common question that reigns supreme in the pre-match conference is the condition of the pitch.

Particularly after what happened in Dominica where the track eventually turned into a very sluggish surface, testing the batters in very unpredictable waters, it is of essence that both the sides know what they were exactly stepping in. More for India as they focus on a transition with new faces coming in, it is of utmost salience that they get the right mix of players for the upcoming Test, irrespective of how the pitch may play like.

Talking in a press conference ahead of the first Test match, Rohit said, “In Dominica, we had a clear idea when we saw the pitch and knew the conditions. Here we don't have clarity as there is talk of rain, but I don't think there will be drastic changes. But whatever conditions are available, based on that, we will make that decision.”

Amongst India’s very lethal bowling attack, the only bowler who looked rusty in that opening fixture against West Indies was Jaydev Unadkat as he didn’t look exactly as sharp as the remaining bowlers. However, Rohit Sharma didn’t seem fazed by that as he was hopeful about the fact that things would turn around. The Indian captain, though, also made it clear that performances are a de rigueur for any individual to continue being a part of the team.

On the same note, he said, “Transition has to happen, whether today or tomorrow but I am happy that our boys who are coming in are doing well. And our role is important as we have to give them role clarity. Now it's up to them how they want to prepare and perform for the team. And we rely on those individuals and obviously they are the future of Indian cricket and they will take Indian cricket to greater heights.”
