This was a near-perfect game for us: Rohit Sharma on India’s win against Netherlands

India registered their second win of the T20 World Cup as they brushed aside the ambitious Netherlands challenge comprehensively, thanks to an all-round display of brilliance, led by the Indian captain Rohit Sharma.

Opting to bat first, India had an early wobble after they lost KL Rahul and the runs were hard to come by. Once the early challenges were seen off, Rohit came all guns blazing at the Orange legion, riding high on some clinical precision and a bunch of steel nerves.

However, the Indian captain felt that the pressure on the Men in Blue was far more at Sydney before they took the yard. Talking in detail at the post-match presentation. Sharma said, “When you're expected to win, the pressure is a lot more. This was a near-perfect game for us. Won't say we were in a spot of bother at the start, wicket was on the slower side and we couldn't play our shots right at the start.”

Despite the early stutter in the batting department, India was pretty fluid with the bat in their hand and the bowlers were clinical in their approach, restricting Netherlands to a paltry 123.

Talking about India’s impeccable bowling and his own half-century, Rohit said, “With the ball, we were clinical. I'm not entirely happy with the way I batted, wouldn't say it was a perfect knock. Just to get some runs under my belt was good. Have to get runs, good looking or ugly looking, doesn't matter. Important to keep that confidence ticking.”

India’s next assignment would be another cracker of an affair as they take on South Africa at the Optus Stadium on Sunday with a wary lookout as the Proteas has so far seemed in pretty intimidating touch, especially with the bat.
