This is my job – Smriti Mandhana opens up on her feelings after match-winning ton against Hong Kong

Smriti Mandhana leapfrogged a legend, Mithali Raj, last night to become the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket. Mandhana moved to 10880 runs, surpassing Mithali’s 10868 after her rollicking century in Dubai saw Hong Kong being razed.

Talking in a video released by BCCI, titled "Scaling New Heights," Smriti Mandhana opened up on what the record means to her while highlighting her ultimate objective. She made it clear that achieving the feat felt special but her primary objective remains winning matches for her country.

Mandhana said, “I have always felt that this is my job. I have never thought of it as anything else than that, the records, the numbers, the amount of matches that you win for India, that is a measure you take back, you don’t take back how many runs or records you’ve broken.”

Revealing what she takes pride in, Mandhana added, “But something in which I pride myself in is helping people around, being there for the other batters. And hopefully, there will be three or four more in the list of 10000+ runs from the Indian set-up. And that is which I would like to be measured with. Sometimes just being that one person there, is not enough or important. Taking three or four with you, I mean as many as I can, but three or four Indian batters in the list of top five, would be great to have. That’s something, I will measure my career with.”
