This is India's best chance yet – AB de Villiers on India’s prospect of a Test series win in South Africa

AB de Villiers has always been vocal about the sport and he has never minced his words whether it comes to pointing out to South Africa’s woes or to uphold the glory of another cricket team. As India prepares to fly to South Africa for a three-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series and a two-match Test series, the RCB Hall of Famer had a few things to say about the Men in Blue.

Talking to the Hindustan Times, de Villiers highlighted why this is the best chance for Team India to register a Test series win against the Proteas in the latter’s backyard. India came mighty close in 2022 where they won the first Test handsomely but then despite glimpses of another remarkable victory in the second and a possible series wrap, they lost control of the reins and the hosts turned the tide around.

Shedding light on whether this is India’s best chance to bag a Test series win against South Africa in the latter’s den, ABD said, “On paper, it seems to be the best chance. Looks like an inexperienced South Africa squad. I would definitely not underestimate any South African sporting team but yes, it is India's best chance yet. They are a very experienced side; they've travelled the world.”

He further added, “They have won everywhere. They've been No. 1 in the world for a very long time. So I expect them to come out firing but you've got to look out for a competing South African team. They will not stand back. Definitely the best chance.”

De Villiers concluded by saying, “South Africa are blowing a little hot and cold. I do feel that when it matters most, they stand up. I expect them to have a fantastic series against India. I would be very wary of the India side though and they'll come with a lot of fire in their belly to want to win that first series in South Africa. But knowing the Proteas side, they would do their homework to make sure that doesn't happen.”
