There were a few butterflies and a lot of excitement: Suryakumar Yadav on playing in Australia
As Team India sharpens their axe to bring it out on the inimical shores of Australia, one of their most valued members, Suryakumar Yadav will be hoping to continue his stellar run in the shortest format of the game.
Ever since the English tour, Surya has been the flagbearer of India’s golden standards, stitching together a handful of crucial knocks, to help the Men in Blue blaze through the ever-evolving mazes of the opposition bowlers. However, this will be the first time that he will be venturing into the distant Australian landmass as a part of the senior Indian team.
Well, no matter how versatile or how good you are, at the end of the day, when the circumstances are so monumental, even the best have crumbled. However, Surya has shown poise and irrespective of the titanic onus that looms large, his words were that of confidence and self-belief.
Talking to the BCCI on Sunday, Surya said, “I was really looking forward to come here and attend the first practice session. Just to get on to the ground, have a walk, have a run and feel how it's like here. The first net session was really amazing.”
He further added, “Obviously there were few butterflies and a lot of excitement, but at the same time you also have to see how you put yourself in that atmosphere and how you peak at the right time. Yes, there's excitement but it's also important to follow the processes and routines.”
The Indian team will be a part of two warm-up games ahead of the showpiece event, the first of which is being played at the WACA ground in Western Australia. Currently ranked 2nd in the T20I batters’ list, Surya wants to take things slow before he explodes on to the big scene.
He concluded by talking about the Australian conditions. "I just wanted to see what the pace of the wicket [is] and bounce, so I'm starting a little slow. Ground dimensions, people say grounds are very big, so it's important to ready your game plan [accordingly], how you're going to score runs, all those things are important. There's cold breeze here, but otherwise conditions are mostly like in India. I'm really looking forward to it," he said.
