There was a sense of fear even while running – Mohammed Shami on his recovery
Mohammed Shami’s inclusion in India’s T20I squad for the five-match series against England was one of the biggest talking points ahead of the bilateral beginning in Kolkata. It has been more than a year since Shami was last seen in an international cricket match, where he played in the 2023 ICC World Cup final. However, following the tournament, he had to take a break which kept on getting prolonged with every passing day.
Following an ankle surgery and overcoming a series of impediments, Shami is all set to rock and roll again.
In a video posted by BCCI, Shami was seen talking about his recovery and how tough it was for him to come back. He also revealed how he felt fear while trying to run once and yet braved it all.
Shami said, “When you are scoring runs and taking wickets, everyone is with you. But the real test is to realise who is with you during tough times. I waited for an entire year and I worked very hard. There was a sense of fear even while running.”
He further added, “It is difficult for any player to get injured after being in full flow, go to the NCA for rehabilitation and then make a comeback. When you go through injuries, I feel you grow stronger as an athlete because you have to repeat a lot of things while being mentally strong. Whatever is done, it is done. I have crossed that phase. If you work hard, you will get the result. That’s what I believe.”
