The synopsis of the ICC meeting

With 5.8 million active cases registered worldwide, the COVID pandemic has brought sporting events to an abrupt end. The social media platforms are engulfed with the tittle-tattle about the postponement of the T20 World Cup.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday shelved verdict on the T20 World Cup till June 10.

"The Board also requested the ICC management continue with their discussions with stakeholders in exploring various contingency options in the light of the rapidly changing public health situation caused by the COVID-19 virus." - The ICC explained in a conference.

The main agenda raised during the meeting perturbed the breach of the confidentiality clause in the last few days.

"A number of Board members had raised their concerns over this issue recently and felt it required immediate attention to ensure the sanctity and confidentiality of Board matters in line with the highest standards of governance." - The ICC release stated.

The ICC ethics officer will be reviewing all the media links. The apex board have already launched an inquiry into the issue.

"There was unanimous agreement to immediately initiate an independent investigation led by the ICC Ethics Officer and supported by global experts. The Board will be updated on this by the ICC CEO at its next meeting on 10 June 2020." - the release further stated.

With Cricket of Australia (COD) announcing their schedule for upcoming tours, which includes T20 matches prior to the World Cup, questions have arisen as to why the T20 World Cup cannot go forward in such circumstances.

"If you look at the Australian itinerary, India's T20 games are scheduled in mid-October before the start of the World T20, If you can play T20 games in mid-October, why is not safe to play World T20." - a source close to the development was quoted as saying to PTI.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to meet again on June 10th to deliver a final verdict on the long-standing issue.
