The amount that we got picked for when they announced it, we couldn't believe it: Virat Kohli on joining RCB in 2008
There has been no other player who has played for a single IPL team across all the 14 seasons of the tournament. Virat Kohli has gone from strength to strength since the inception of the IPL alongside RCB. Speaking on the RCB podcast, the former RCB and Indian skipper has revealed the feeling surrounding the moment he was picked by the Bangalore-based franchise back in 2008 while he was still honing his game at the Under-19 level for India.
“We were all in Malaysia for the U-19 World Cup. I remember the day when the drafts were happening. The U-19 dynamic was a little different, because we very rightly had a money cap if I could say. That was the only time where I saw a restriction on how much you can be picked for if you haven't played for India,” Kohli said, reminiscing the events around the time of the auction.
Kohli described that specific moment as crazy and incredulous for his U19 teammates. “So that for us, I remember even that moment for us was so amazing. Because the amount that we got picked for when they announced it, we couldn't believe it because it was absolutely crazy,” he further added.
The association between RCB and Virat Kohli will continue into the coming IPL season as well with the champion cricketer being retained by the Bangalore outfit ahead of the mega auction.
