That's how we win championships – Rohit Sharma reflects on India-Australia series

India clinched the ODI series against Australia by a 2-1 margin as Rohit Sharma and his men failed to chase down a 353-run target in the final ODI despite their top-order putting up an impressive show. The Indian bowlers had a rare bad day in office as the Aussies piled up 352 from their allotment of 50 overs.

The Indian top-order comprising the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer did put up a phenomenal show while KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja did their part with significant cameos. However, the grandstand flourish that was needed to get India across the line never arrived and that cost the Men in Blue dearly.

Talking at the post-match conference, Rohit opened up at length about what went wrong for the Men in Blue, also underlining what could have been done better by the team. With all said and done, the Indian captain also spoke about how what currently matters is that the Indian cricketers head to the 2023 World Cup with a fresh state of mind.

Rohit started by talking about the match, stating, “I'm pretty happy, of course I would like to go all the way along but if I'm hitting like that I'm happy. The last 7-8 ODIs we have played really well, we have been challenged under different conditions and different teams, I thought we responded to that challenge pretty well. Unfortunately not the result we wanted today.”

He further shed some light on Bumrah, adding, “I'm pretty happy, more importantly how he feels body-wise, he has got so much skill, one bad game can happen to anyone. How he feels mentally and body-wise is key for us and that's looking good for us.”

Rohit concluded by saying, “When we talk about the 15 we are very clear what we want. We are not confused, we know where we are headed as a team. It's a team sport and we want everyone to come and play their part - that's how we win championships. It's about looking after the body and trying to stay fresh for the next one and half months.”
