In a bizarre turn of events, BBL team Sydney Sixers were forced to play their assistant coach, Jay Lenton, in a key contest against the Adelaide Strikers with a place in the finals at stake. They were left with no other options when their only wicket-keeper and former RCB star Josh Philippe tested positive for COVID-19.

Fortunately, Lenton was accustomed to the role that was asked of him as he has previously played for the Sydney Thunder as a wicket-keeper before accepting the role of an assistant coach with the Sydney Sixers.

Lenton opened up about his feelings of inclusion in the playing eleven as he said, “It's got a nice ring to it, the assistant coach who is playing! I found out at around 1 o'clock today. Everything went through the process.”

“Last time I played at a game was at the Thunder camp, which was before Christmas. The last game before Christmas,” he further added.

However quizzical this decision may sound, there have been mixed feelings about the same. A few believe that allowing the assistant coach to play is against the moral obligation of building the team. On the other hand, a few are extremely amused at the thought of such a surreal unfolding.
