Statistics and trivia feat. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians
The games between RCB and the Mumbai Indians are always a star-studded affair, and over the years has produced some of the most outstanding moments in IPL history. We look at 8 pieces of records, trivia and upcoming milestones as RCB look to bounce back against the mighty Mumbai Indians.
235/1 - This one came in 2015. The highest-ever team score against the Mumbai Indians is 235/1m and the record belongs to RCB. An AB de Villiers masterclass and an unbeaten 215-run partnership with King Kohli meant RCB put the MI bowlers to the sword.
133* - In the same match. AB de Villiers’s 133* is also the highest-ever individual score against MI in an IPL game. De Villiers toyed with MI bowlers with utmost ease, one consisting of Malinga, Bumrah, and Harbhajan, and brought even the most loyal of Wankhede support to its feet in applause of his genius.
100 - Of the 133 runs that came from the bat of AB de Villiers, 100 of those were in fours and sixes. Those 100 runs are the highest number of runs scored in boundaries in an innings against the Mumbai Indians in an IPL game.
215 - After Chris Gayle was dismissed early, RCB desperately needed its two star batsmen to stand up and make it count. They did so in superb fashion, putting on an unbeaten stand of 215 runs. The partnership is still the highest-ever against MI in an IPL game for any wicket.
372.72 - AB de Villiers’s 11-ball 41 is the fastest innings ever in the IPL (minimum 10 balls) with a strike rate of 372.72, came against MI in 2015 at the Chinnaswamy.
4/9 - Samuel Badree’s 4/9 in 2017 are the best-ever figures against the Mumbai Indians in a completed 4-over spell in the IPL. Badree’s hattrick rocked the Mumbai top-order as RCB put up a valiant fight defending 142. Badree’s is only one of two bowlers to take a hattrick against the Mumbai Indians. The other bowler to have done so is their current skipper Rohit Sharma who achieved the feat in 2009 while he was playing for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers.
76 - The 76-run partnership between Chris Gayle and Arun Karthik is the highest-ever 6th wicket stand for RCB in the IPL, and came against the Mumbai Indians in 2013. The game also produced the closest margin of victory in an RCB-MI game. A fine last over by Vinay Kumar gave RCB a 2-run win defending a lowly total of 156.
9 - AB de Villiers is 9 runs away from becoming the second-highest run-scorer against MI in the IPL. He is on 656. De Villiers will leapfrog MS Dhoni and Shikhar Dhawan who are on 663 and 664 respectively. Virat Kohli is lurking closely as well on 625, only 40 runs behind.
