Be it Virat’s unforgettable century in 2019, or Chris Gayle’s century on his RCB debut, RCB vs KKR has produced some of the few iconic moments in IPL history. As we play our first game of the season in Sharjah, we take a look at 5 pieces of statistics and trivia over the years from the games between Royals Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.

213 - RCB’s score of 213/4 against KKR in the 2019 season is the highest total by any team against KKR away in the IPL. Virat Kohli scored a blinding century off only 57 balls, ably supported by Moeen Ali who provided fireworks of his own in his knock of 66 off only 28 balls as RCB put 213/4 on the board. RCB went on to win the game by 10 runs.

9 - 9 Sixes hit by Chris Gayle against KKR in Bangalore in 2013 is second highest in a single innings against KKR in IPL history. Gayle flayed the KKR bowlers around scoring 85 off only 50. RCB comfortably chased down the target of 155 with 15 balls to spare. The 9 sixes are also the highest number of sixes against KKR in a run-chase in the IPL. 

13 - Catches Virat has held against KKR is the joint-most against Kolkata. Virat is tied for the top spot with Rohit Sharma, however, Kohli’s tally has taken 2 innings lesser than the Mumbai Indians skipper.

184 - Virat Kohli’s tally against KKR in 2019 is the second-highest for a single season tally against KKR. Warner scored 189 runs in 2017 but needed 3 innings, one more than Virat in 2019.

123 - 123 partnership between Chris Gayle and Dilshan in 2011 was the first-ever instance of a 100+ opening partnership against KKR in IPL in a run-chase in the IPL. The partnership is also the fourth-best opening partnership against KKR. Gayle scored 102 on his debut for RCB against his former IPL franchise, instantly elevating him to cult hero status among the RCB faithful.
