With time passing faster than ever and the deadline of announcing the 15-man World Cup squad coming closer, the BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is planning to wait it out till 5th of September to take the final call.

However, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly picked his ideal 15-man squad for the upcoming World Cup that does resonate with Ajit Agarkar's statement of the unit being somewhat similar to the team for the Asia Cup.

Ganguly made two omissions from the team that has been picked for the Asia Cup, with the former India captain opting to drop Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna from the squad. Varma got a call-up for the Asia Cup squad after putting up an impressive performance against West Indies while Prasidh Krishna returned from an injury after a long hiatus.

The former BCCI President also picked three back-ups for the side which included Yuzvendra Chahal, apart from Prasidh and Varma. Ganguly said, “If one of the middle-order batters gets unfit, then Tilak Varma. One of the pacers gets unfit then Prasidh Krishna and Yuzvendra Chahal for spinners.”

Sourav Ganguly’s 15-man squad for World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan (wk), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur.
